MALVERN Cycle Sport’s youngsters picked up trophies at the Midlands Mountain Bike Cross-country Championships third round.

A climbing course at Birchall, near Chesterfield, seemed to suit the town crew in cool but sunny conditions.

Twelve Malvern riders took part and Harrison Webb rode consistently for third place in the junior 17 to 18 category after finishing seventh and sixth in the earlier rounds.

Webb kept second spot in sight for most of the race before dropping back on the last lap but still finished well clear of fourth.

In the youth section for 15 and 16-yearolds, Malvern’s Dave Creber led the pack away with Josh Brooks and Ollie Harcombe just behind.

Creber ended up holding on for second place with Brooks sixth and Harcombe eighth.

Eleven-year-old Louis Brooks was second in the under 13s race after a tremendous battle.
