HANLEY Swan suffered a disappointing Cheltenham Junior Charity Cup quarter-final exit at Lakeside, going down 3-2.
The game could have gone either way with Dan Briscoe heading just over and twice hitting the post for Hanley in the early stages.
Stand-in keeper Tristan Tyler saved well but, from the corner, Lakeside broke the deadlock at the back post.
Hanley eventually equalised when Jon Palmer latched on to a great through-ball from Matt Atkinson to strike home.
They started the second-half looking for more goals and forcing good saves from the keeper.
However, Lakeside took the lead following a breakaway as Tyler was unable to hold the ball at the feet of a forward and the rebound was buried.
Hanley left themselves open at the back and Lakeside increased their advantage.
The visitors pulled a goal back late in the game through Andy Rogers but were unable to find the equaliser.
Hanley’s next game is at Tivoli Rovers in Cheltenham League Division Three today (2pm)
