TALENTED cricketer Georgia Hennessy will celebrate her 15th birthday in style today after being called up to the England Under 19s squad.

The all-rounder, who plays for Barnards Green, is due to link up with her new team-mates at Loughborough University ahead of winter training.

Hennessy’s call-up caps a successful year for The Chase Technology College student and marks the next step in her career.

It comes hot on the heels of her being named young player-of-the-year at Barnards Green, best bowler for the fourths and top all-rounder for the Sunday firsts.

Hennessy, whose brother Elliot was part of the Birmingham League team that won promotion to Division Two, is also a prominent figure in the Worcestershire set-up, including the ladies senior side.

During the 2011 campaign, she achieved a top score of 132 not out for the County Under 15s against Shropshire, while claiming 18 wickets with her fast bowling.

Her selection comes after she was named among the best under 19s in the country and is the first time the North End Lane club have had England women’s international.

Georgia’s father John said: “She has been playing cricket since she was nine and has always been playing above herself.

“I have seen a lot of girls’ cricket and she is not out of place in the under 19s. We are very proud of her.”
