A SUMMER of recruiting experienced players awaits Malvern Town manager Chris Palmer after his side finish off their Aspire Midland Alliance season at Highgate United tomorrow (ko 3pm).

The Langland Stadium side signed off their home league fixtures with a 2-1 mid-week win over Westfields.

Andy Crosskey gave the hosts the lead in the fifth minute but Westfields equalised after 25 minutes through Daryl Addis.

Malvern grabbed what would be the winner in the 44th minute when striker Troy Wood fired home to mathematically confirm they stay in the league next season.

This derby victory followed a 4-2 home defeat to Boldmere St Michaels.

But Palmer’s side still face at least one cup clash when they host Bromyard Town in the Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup semi-final on Tuesday, May 11 (ko 7.30pm). If they advance, Malvern play in the final the following Sunday.

Although fully focused on ending the term with a victory tomorrow, Palmer has already targeted signing more experienced players to his squad in pre-season to complement his current crop of youth team charges.

Palmer said: “The derby win gives us hope for next season.

“It gives me a bit of optimism. We need to find the right people to bring in for next season. I know what needs to be done.

“We need to sign four or five players at the very least and some of the current squad will have to move on.

“We need more experience, three or four experienced players who have played at this level before.

“We’re averaging scoring two goals a game but often we conceded three or four so there is some naivety to us at the moment.

“It’s been a tougher season than I expected it to be. There have been too many low points. But I think we’re going in the right direction.

“Hopefully, we can start next season with a few wins.”
