Rocester 2, Malvern Town 3.

MALVERN Town travelled to Rocester in the Aspire Midland Alliance and returned home with all three points.

Chris Palmer’s side were in control throughout the whole game but luck seemed to be still against them when Joe Tustain’s shot hit Adam Hewitt and deflected wide onto the net.

Both Joe Tustain and Troy Wood had snap-shots and Craig Selby was working well down the right.

In the 34th minute the ball was played into Malvern’s penalty area and across goal and visiting goalkeeper Lewis Skyers ran out and shoulder- charged Chris Hurling as he was running to the touchline. The referee blew the whistle and awarded a penalty which Morgan Hurley converted.

Town continued to attack and Tustain’s shot was palmed away by keeper Richard Froggatt and Mason Mansfield’s corner fell to Mike Rhodes whose shot was caught by Froggatt.

In the 60th minute the ball was crossed to Troy Wood who found Tustain and his shot took a deflection and went wide. Tustain took the corner and Rhodes rose and headed it home.

Craig Carter came on for the injured Selby and, with practically his first touch, put Malvern in the lead for the first time.

Wood threaded a wonderful ball to him just outside the area and Selby rounded three defenders and slotted the ball home. Malvern increased their lead in the 75th minute, when the ball was played out of Rocester’s area to Rhodes who fired home from over 30 yards out.

This stirred Rocester and in the 81st minute a corner was crossed into Malvern’s area and substitute Mark Hodson’s shot hit the post and went into the net to reduce the deficit.

In stoppage-time, another corner was cleared out to Chris McComisky who fired in a shot from the left-hand side and Skyers was at his brilliant best to finger-tip the ball away and secure Malvern’s important win.

Malvern had a home goalless draw with Loughborough University in the league on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, Town travel to Oadby Town (ko 3pm) in their latest clash.
