Malvern Town Youth 0, Notts County Youth 1 (AET).

MALVERN Town's young guns suffered extra-time heartache last night (Thursday) when they crashed out of the FA Youth Cup first round proper.

Sven Goran Eriksson may not have been at the game but he would have witnessed a gutsy performance by Town, who were only beaten by a 98th minute strike from substitute Paul Lawless.

But Town gave County a run for their money with first-team player Mason Mansfield looking dangerous up front for the hosts.

The Langland Stadium side were also left to rue several missed chances in the first-half of normal time that they dominated.

After four minutes a teasing cross from midfielder Brad Birch was fired low two yards from the goal line that none of his team-mates could reach.

Midfielder Craig Carter had a close-range shot saved after 15 minutes. Two minutes later, Birch fired his shot over from 10 yards. Mansfield had a shot from point-blank range only saved by the feet of County keeper Liam Mitchell.

But Town's best chance fell on 47 minutes when Joe Kings hit the post after being put clean through.

The visitors rode the Town storm and after the second period of normal time petered out, and the game looking like going to penalties, Lawless fired his side through after the ball was cut back from the by-line by striker Chris Langham.
