Malvern finally get a winning formula

MALVERN v LYE.

AFTER making just 46 all out the previous week, Malvern restored some pride with a 67 run victory over Lye in their latest Worcestershire Crusader League match.

Anthony Arnold's side put the bad memories of the Colwall defeat behind them with a fine all-round display after the skipper had called for an immediate response from his players.

Malvern will hope the victory will kickstart their league season and made easy work of the visitors to Regency Road last Saturday.

Lye won the toss and no doubt after seeing Malvern's terrible batting display the previous week at Colwall, put them into bat first.

However, Adam Dovey and Mark Baugh gave Malvern a very solid start. Dovey was in superb freescoring form before he was run out by a brilliant direct hit with the score on 47.

Luke Halion came to the wicket and immediately played some lovely shots all round the ground until he was adjudged lbw for 19 runs.

Baugh departed for 29 shortly afterwards, Rob Francis struck some savage blows with the batbefore he was bowled.

Ollie Bendall and Tom Poole then produced a mature partnership to take Malvern past 200.

Dovey quickly made the breakthrough at the start of the Lye reply when he got rid of Langford.

This was quickly followed by Francis, who bowled Hussain.

Another couple of wickets were next, and at 34-4 some shrewd captaincy from Arnold put the pressure on the visitors, meaning wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.

Lye continued to attack but quality catches from Malvern's fielders swung the game in their favour.

Huw Dimond took a stunning one handed catch to dispose of Iqbal and Andy Cullen's diving effort dismissed Chadwal.

Bendall also took three good catches as the visitors reached a total of 134.

Dovey proved to be the most successful of Malvern's bowlers, taking 4-49.

Malvern 1st XI, away at Feckeham (tomorrow, 1.30pm): Anthony Arnold (captain), Steve Carter, Rob Francis, Mark Baugh, Adam Dovey, J Dovey, Andy Cullen, Luke Halion, Hugh Dimond, J Kirkby, Tom Poole.
