MALVERN Town have signed skilful winger Harry Clarke ahead of their competitive opener after he impressed in pre-season.

The youngster put in energetic displays over the summer and is in the squad for Saturday's West Midlands League Premier Division curtain-raiser.

Malvern host county rivals Pershore Town at the HDanywhere Community Stadium (3pm).

“Harry has been great in pre-season,” said co-manager Lee Hooper.

“He has improved with every match and displayed a refreshing attitude to the game.

“He has the ability to keep improving and we are delighted to have signed him.”

Further spice is added on Saturday with summer signings Steve Webb and Ben Lane making Malvern league debuts against their former club who have switched from Midland League Division One.

“I’m really excited for the opening game,” said ex-Pershore skipper Webb.

“I spent 10 years with Pershore so there’s certainly extra motivation and excitement from me for this fixture.

“The main thing though is we make a winning start to the season and get three points on the board straight away to set us on the right track.”

Malvern have put three talented youth players on first-team forms after they caught the eye in pre-season.

Full-back Curtis Smith, centre-half Dan Noke and midfielder George Watkins will be available to Hooper and co-manager Dene Whittal-Williams.

“The three lads have stepped up from the youth system and really impressed us,” said Hooper.

“They have plenty of talent and a real desire to succeed which is serving them well.

“They have great fitness and work-rate and the potential to go a long way in the game.

“There are also other players from the under 18s and reserve team who are knocking on the first-team door having given a good account of themselves during pre-season.

“It’s exciting to see such talent involved with the club and there is a clear pathway for them to progress here and get their chance if they keep doing the right things.”

The club want new players for their under 18s team from school years 12 and 13.
