COLWALL surged up to seventh in Worcestershire League Division One after a four-wicket victory at lowly Pedmore.

Put into bat, the 10-man hosts were hit by pacy Fergus Cameron (3-20) who snapped up three wickets in his first four overs with two caught by wicketkeeper Ali Pearce.

Mike Gooch collected two wickets in his fifth over as Pedmore slumped to 34-5.

Asif Iqbal (26) was caught by skipper Ben Cooke in spinner Ben Febery’s first over after a flurry of boundaries.

When Febery struck again the hosts looked doomed at 74-7.

But Calum White (50) smashed five sixes and five fours in a stand of 71 for the eighth wicket before being caught by Joe Blight off James Wagstaffe.

Nick Brown took a return catch to dismiss the hosts for 146 in the 28th over.

Colwall openers Cameron (24) and Archie Sale (13) scored 43 in five overs before the former was bowled having hit two sixes.

But five more wickets fell for 38 and at 81-6 Blight joined PJ Recorden in an unbroken stand of 66 to settle the issue in the 24th over.

Blight's 38 not out included two sixes.

Colwall seconds encountered few problems in sealing a four-wicket home win over Pedmore in Division One.

Pedmore struggled against the pacy Jack Knight-Adams (1-30) and Stu Martin who conceded just 13 in a tight seven overs.

Opener Kevin Truswell got 55 with support from Brian Pearsall (36) but Phil Richardson (3-31) broke through the middle order.

Then a wicket apiece for John Card and Nick Pearce and a final burst of 4-14 in four overs from Idress Mohammed reduced the visitors to 181 all out with three overs left.

Mohammed (30) hit a six off the second ball of Colwall’s reply before falling to a boundary catch and although three followed in-form captain Will Bishop and Andrew Waters (11) bolstered the innings.

Bishop (60) shared a thriving sixth-wicket stand with Richardson who saw Colwall home with 42no in the 37th over.

Colwall thirds subsided to a 234-run defeat to Marches League Division Two title-chasers Canon Frome as opener Ben Childs smashed 202no in their 356-2 declared with three overs left on a parched wicket.

Chris Kendall had Sam Pratley caught behind by Ali Martin in his second over but Childs and Pete Richards (91) added 241 for the second wicket before the latter was caught off Bruno Recorden.

Child hit 19 fours and 13 sixes.

Colwall slipped to 34-3 before Kendall rallied with 54 but once he went the wicket deteriorated rapidly at one end causing Dick Tugwell to retire hurt after being hit on the head by the ball.

Recorden managed a sturdy 18 before succumbing as Colwall folded to 122 all out.

Colwall firsts host leaders Stourport at Stowe Lane on Saturday (1pm) when the club also have a curry evening from 7.30pm.
