OLD rivals Worcester Nomads proved no match for a resurgent Colwall side as the visitors cruised to a decisive seven-wicket victory in Worcestershire League Division One.

After winning the toss and asking their hosts to bat on a pitch affected by rain, Colwall made inroads from the outset as Nomads were shot out for just 73 in the 28th over.

Although Colwall lost three wickets in reply a rapid unbeaten 28 from James Abel settled the issue in the 13th over to take them up a place in the table and clear of the relegation zone.

Pace bowlers Mike Gooch (2-9) and Fergus Cameron (2-13) reduced Nomads to 22-4 from accurate seven-over spells with all the wickets falling to catches.

Although David White (34) resisted there was no let-up.

Johnno Gooch had Lewis Austin (16) caught by Abel and spinner Nick Brown (3-8) chipped in with a return catch off White as Nomads' tail disintegrated.

James Wagstaffe added another wicket and PJ Recorden a run out in a smart fielding display which saw eight catches taken and none spilt.

Skipper Ben Cooke (23) and Cameron (13) gave Colwall a solid start before both fell to catches by Mark Groves off Josh Hawes and Brown also fell cheaply.

But Abel and newcomer Dan Brierley saw off the remaining runs without further alarm.

Colwall seconds chased down 233 to beat Nomads by six wickets with nine overs in hand at Stowe Lane in Division One.

Steve Coffey and Dan Newby took early wickets after Nomads were asked to bat but the visitors then took control.

Opener Derek Austin (61) and Jamie Oliver (106) punished the home change bowlers in a flourishing stand which took the total past 200 inside 40 overs.

Nomads looked set for over 300 until John Card (2-45) took a return catch to remove Austin.

When Will Bishop took a boundary catch to dismiss Oliver off Idris Mohammed the rot set in with the last five wickets falling rapidly to Mohammed (3-24) and Newby (3-22).

Colwall replied quickly through opener Joe Blight and although they slipped to 63-3 a fourth-wicket stand of 116 between Blight and Bishop set them up for victory.

Blight barely offered a chance in reaching his century in the 30th over and although he was bowled on 107 Bishop (65 not out) and Kit Lister (23no) saw Colwall home in the 41st over.

At Ghost Meadow, 16-year-old Menno Recorden scored his maiden half-century in Colwall’s Marches League Division Four clash against Strollers seconds but the visitors edged home by three wickets.

Adam Greaves (22) gave Colwall a reasonable start but then the scoring rate declined until Menno Recorden (50) and Alex Jenkins (20) helped lift the final total to 156-6.

Colwall reduced Strollers to 81-5 off 20 overs but opener Mark Pirie (56) and Dave Hurds (31no) defied the home attack to clinch a three-wicket win despite Mark Lessimore's 2-21 and Luke Recorden's 2-12.
