SUMMER signing Steve Webb admits the vision mapped out by joint managers Lee Hooper and Dene Whittal-Williams persuaded him to join Malvern Town.

The versatile 28-year-old has ended his long spell at Pershore Town to make the move to the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division outfit.

During his time at Pershore Webb played in a number of different positions, featuring 35 times last term, and demonstrated his leadership skills as club captain.

But Webb is now looking to fulfil the lofty ambitions of Hooper and Whittal-Williams and follow in the footsteps of Ben Lane who has also arrived at the HDanywhere Community Stadium from Pershore.

“I had been at Pershore for a long time and felt that the time was right to seek a new challenge,” Webb said.

“There were a few offers on the table, but good things are happening at Malvern Town and I am excited to be part of it.

“I know some of the lads here and I know what a good team they are, so hopefully I can come in, make a contribution and add something to the group.

“The managerial team have spoken well about what they want to do here.

“I was really impressed with their vision for the club and now I can’t wait to get started.”

Hooper and Whittal-Williams have also recaptured striker Matt Pinder who had a stint at Town in the 2016-17 season before securing a scholarship in America.

Injury halted his progress, but the former AFC Rushden and Diamonds youngster is back to full fitness and ready for the new season.

“It’s great to be back on board,” Pinder said.

“As soon as I spoke to the new managerial team I knew that this was the place I wanted to be.There’s a good set of lads here and a real buzz around the place.

“I want to get back amongst the goals and help the club progress.”

Along with the return of Pinder, Hooper and Whittal-Williams have retained the services of left-back Harry Wickett and midfielder Phil Harris who were key members of last season’s squad.

“Things are falling into place nicely and there is plenty of reason to be optimistic,” Harris added.

“I believe that we’ll be right up there challenging for promotion.”
