BARNARDS Green's Jon Dovey dismissed England hopeful Joe Clarke for a duck but they had to be content with a Birmingham League Division One losing draw at home to Oswestry.

After they were inserted by the Malvern side at North End Lane, Oswestry reached 242 all out in 53.3 overs inspired by 140 from 148 balls from Warrick Fynn.

Skipper Robbie Clarke added 52 but Worcestershire ace Joe Clarke failed to trouble the scorers in his first outing of the season for his home club.

Phil Harris (3-34) and Ryan Tongue (3-42) were the main men with the ball for the home side who were restricted to 38 overs in reply after a rain interruption during the first innings.

Adam Wiffen hit 60 as Green finished on 154-8 with Fynn and Ian Davies both returning 3-37.

The match between high-fliers Kidderminster and Shifnal was reduced to 49 overs per side and the Worcestershire side reached 221-8 thanks to 67 from County prospect Ben Twohig.

Chad Brandrick took 4-65 and he also top scored with an unbeaten 80 for Shifnal, adding 103 for the fifth wicket with Ian Bissell (55 not out).

Adam Hewlett struck eight boundaries in a cavalier 44 from 33 balls to give the Brockhampton innings impetus against Tamworth and the Herefordshire outfit reached 189-8 from 38 overs.

Tamworth’s response was equally positive with Warwickshire’s Liam Banks cracking 73 from 48 balls to set up a three-wicket success.

Hewlett took 3-60 to stake his claim as man of the match but Tamworth’s victory kept them level with Shifnal at the top of the table.

An innings of 145 in 165 balls from Ed Kilbee with 17 fours and four sixes eased Halesowen to an imposing 265-9 against Bromsgrove who were dismissed for 187.

Ash Newfield took 3-66 for the visitors but apart from Alec Baker (86) and Lewis Cordes (51) the Bromsgrove batting line-up showed little application against Dylan Ross-Watt (3-27), Eddie Rhodes (3-39) and Charlie Hartley (3-51).

Premier Division bottom club Barnt Green went down to a 20-run defeat in a low-scoring affair against newly-promoted Moseley at Cherry Hill Road.

They remain the only side in the division without a win although it looked as if it might be Green’s day when Moseley slumped to 55-7 but number nine batsman Jugdeep Nandra hit a patient 27 from 76 balls to improve matters to 123 all out in 49 overs.

Andrew Sutton took 4-41 and Zain Ul-Hassan 3-22 for Green but they were in similar trouble at 67-7.

However, there was no escape route as Warwickshire all-rounder Alex Thomson took 4-21, Nandra 3-9 and Yadvinder Singh 3-31 as Green were dismissed for 103 in the 46th over.

In a match reduced to 38 overs a side due to a late start, Berkswell rattled up 198-7 against Ombersley who responded with 76-6.

Chris Whittock top scored with 45 for Berkswell as off-spinner Oliver Uffindall took 3-53 for Ombersley who failed to reach second gear when it was their turn to bat after a devastating opening spell from Tom Milnes (5-8) saw them crash to 28-5.

Fordhouses claimed their first Division Two win of the season at previously-unbeaten Pershore.

After a slow start to the season, they showed their class with a strong performance and Pershore reached 177-9 in an innings restricted to 48 overs.

Chris Ridings top scored with 68 while Kashif Hussein took 3-35 and David Powles, against one of his former clubs, 3-41.

The Fordhouses batting line-up was strengthened by Indian overseas player Sanjay Ramaswamy who hit 51 from 57 balls as they cruised to victory.

Steven Sandhu finished unbeaten on 54 from 57 balls.

Astwood Bank’s total of 173-7 in 49 overs against C&R Hawks included 48 from Sam Thomas with Nadeem Akram taking 3-25 from 12 overs for the visitors.

A half-century from Valeed Butt (51) and 36 from Omar Ali saw Hawks to 73-1 and they cantered to a five-wicket win with 18 overs to spare.

Worcester's Old Elizabethans collapsed to 78 all out in 34.2 overs against Pelsall in Division Three as Todd Henderson wreaked havoc with 7-35.

His eye-catching effort paved the way for an eight-wicket win which was led by 35 from Jake Lee.

The innings of the day in the division came from Redditch opener Tom Field who scored 123 from 150 balls against Whitchurch with 17 fours and two sixes.

He was involved in an opening stand of 77 with Rizwan Chaudhry (40) as Redditch reached 250-9 in 54 overs.

Ijaz Yousaf took 5-55 with support from Nadeem Ahmad (3-45).

Whitchurch’s response came from Elliott Bowen (41 not out) and Salim Ahmed (41) but they fell short on 198-7 with Waqas Ali taking 4-63 for the home side.
