CHAIRMAN Chris Pinder insisted Malvern Town would embrace a move to a new league as part of the Football Association’s restructuring.

Town are expected to find out from the governing body tomorrow (Friday) whether or not they will remain in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.

According to some unofficial projections Malvern could be put into the Hellenic League Division One West which includes clubs from Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

If Town were to make the step-six switch, Pinder said many of his players would be taking a leap into the “unknown” next season.

But with Dene Whittal-Williams and Lee Hooper recently appointed as joint managers Pinder felt it would only add to the “excitement” at Town.

“If we are in the same league then we know what to expect in many ways,” Pinder said.

“But if we are in a different league we have got the excitement of some new away grounds and new opposition to look forward to.

“I tried to move Malvern a few years ago into the Midland Football League as I have got my criticisms of the West Midlands League.

“We would welcome a move as it would just add to the changes going on at the club at the moment with the new management in place.”

It is understood the reshuffling measures are designed to bring greater balance across the board and Pinder reckoned the possible new structure made “a lot more sense”.

“I think the national game needs a change, so I do agree with the FA’s decision,” added Pinder whose side have finished in the top four in the past four seasons.

“If we are moved to the Hellenic League we will approach ever game blind as it will be completely unknown.

“But players get bored of playing the same teams and same guys each week.

“That’s why cup competitions are so enjoyable as you are playing different teams from different areas.

“So to get moved to a new league at the same step level would bring a whole new challenge to a group of players who are a bit jaded from playing the same Black Country teams week in week out.

“I also don’t think there will be any financial impact depending on which league we are put in.”
