MALVERN Hills club players qualified for the final rounds of the National Indoor Bowls Championships at Nottingham.

Martin Smith won the men's over 60s singles title, beating Gary Brock from Kent 21-17 in the final.

Brothers Neil and Marcus Smith along with Mike Holmes were runners-up in the men's over 50s triples, losing a close match to Hartlepool 18-15.

Martin Smith and Martin Griffiths also qualified for the over 60s men's pairs, losing out in the quarter-finals 15-11 to a team from York.

Junior international Ryan Atkins made the final rounds of the family pairs with his father Mark who had to have major heart surgery before the championships.

Ryan's mother Nadine stepped in to play for the first time in eight years and they won one match but lost to Swale in the quarter-finals.

Carol Goodyear and Pam Harris qualified for the last 16 of the women's over 60s pairs at Nottingham.

Eira Drake, Emily Jones, Alan Griffiths and Mark Atkins made the last 16 of the mixed fours at Lodden Vale earlier in the year.
