WORCESTER Nomads maintained their unbeaten Worcestershire League Division One start with a seven-wicket win over Pedmore at Bransford.

They were indebted to a superb stand of 131 between in-form David White and Ollie Ranscombe in their reply to the visitors' 220-8.

Pedmore surprisingly decided to bat first after being bowled out for 39 the previous weekend.

Ben Schiffmann and Patrick O’Driscoll removed Asif Iqbal and Jon Heardman in a few deliveries to leave the visitors on 17-2.

Pedmore's cautious approach accounted for a third wicket when opener Wayne Holt was bowled by Cameron Blakey for a 62-ball 19.

David Meehan and skipper James Burgoyne rebuilt the innings with 54 for the fourth wicket.

Meehan (53) mistimed a pull shot and skied a catch to O’Driscoll off Tom Baker.

Pedmore's scoring rate increased though Baker and youngster Harvey Groves regained some control.

Burgoyne was slightly hampered by injury and Groves (2-31) had him caught behind for 31 before forcing Matt Porter to sky a catch to White.

All-rounder Paul Taylor (42) showed his intent with two early boundaries but Groves had him dropped twice on four and 40.

The hosts gifted Pedmore around 40 runs with errant bowling and lethargic fielding.

Despite aggressive bowling, Nomads openers Ollie Scurry and Guy Davies scored quickly with the former hitting 33 out of the first-wicket partnership of 44.

Having pulled an earlier ball for six, a second attempt at the same shot was unsuccessful as Scurry top-edged an easy catch behind.

Davies and White doubled the score in good time before Pedmore turned to spin with Heardman and Iqbal slowing down Nomads.

Davies (32) was unfortunate to drill a rare Heardman leg-side full-toss to short fine leg.

But White and Ranscombe were in dominant mood, hitting regular boundaries without the need for too much aggression.

White went to his second half-century in as many weeks and was more than matched by his young partner who also reached 50 at almost a run-a-ball.

The pair offered no chances until with just four left to score Ranscombe was bowled by Taylor for 65.

But White was undefeated on 63 as Nomads cruised to victory with just over six overs to spare.

Nomads seconds could not force a victory in the reverse Division One fixture.

The visitors recalled Mark Groves for his first match in two years and he smashed 166 in his team's 280 all out.

Pedmore made a valiant attempt but fell short on 238-5 for the losing draw.
