MALVERN Town’s seven-match West Midlands Football League Premier Division winning run was brought to an end.

But Les Jones’ fourth-placed side avoided defeat with a 1-1 draw at Wednesfield in seventh spot.

Malvern top scorers Matt Turner and Kyonn Evans were suspended and delayed respectively with the latter arriving 15 minutes into the match.

Wednesfield played down the slope in the first half and the Town defence were under constant pressure but dealt with it efficiently.

Evans was brought on in the 30th minute and within 11 minutes won a penalty when he was brought down in the area.

Josh Hunt stepped up to take the kick, placing it to Tom Whitehouse’s right.

But the keeper saved and pushed it out only for Lewis Platt to fire the rebound home via the far post.

However, the lead did not last long and with practically the final kick of the first half Wednesfield levelled.

The ball was crossed from the right and an air-kick from a Town player left the ball landing at the feet of Adam Skeldon who fired it home.

The second period saw Malvern having a lot of possession with Wednesfield happy to defend and hoping to score on the break.

In the 50th minute, Evans played the ball to Platt but his shot hit the post.

A Phil Harris throw-in to Hunt was directed just wide in the 79th minute.

During the final 10 minutes, Platt found Hunt but the shot was blocked before the same two players combined and supplied Evans but he fired over.

Malvern are at home to Worcestershire rivals Bewdley Town in the league on Saturday (3pm).

The under 21s return to action on Saturday, January 6, at home to Westfields Reserves.
