HEREFORD FC manager Pete Beadle praised Gethyn Preen's performance as the Bulls romped to an 8-0 FA Cup win.

Preen has divided opinion since joining the club in the summer, but he looked lively as Hereford demolished Godalming Town in a First Round Qualifying tie.

"I thought he was a constant threat and created a lot of chances," said Beadle.

"It was nice for him to get off the mark and he showed what he is capable of.

"It is up to him now to do that on a consistent basis.

"I thought the front four looked bright and created a lot of chances and on another day, could have created a lot of chances for themselves.

"The finishing was a bit off at times and we have said that in the last couple of league games at home we haven't created enough, but I thought the front four today were a constant threat.

The game was effectively over three minutes in when Godalming goalkeeper Aaron Bufton was sent off for handling outside the area.

John Mills scored the resulting free-kick and from thereon in, it was a case of how many Hereford would score.

The Bulls had 44 shots at goal, but in the end had to settle for just the eight goals, which equalled their record score after forming two years ago.

"On another day it could have been a lot more, but we couldn't have had it any easier," added Beadle.

"We're at home and four minutes in, they're keeper is sent off.

"It was harsh maybe, but the letter of the law says he's got to go and we score straight from the free-kick.

"And then after that it was a case of if we could be a bit more clinical in the final third, we could give ourselves a little confidence boost.

"I thought we did that and even in the second half, we didn't step off and kept the intensity quite high.

"The pressure is on us, but we still performed to a level that was more than adequate and I thought we looked nice and bright and is exactly what we needed after and is a timely boost for us."

Ryan Green returned to the Hereford defence and Beadle said it was great to have him back.

"It was great to have Ryan back because he brings an air of calmness in the way he plays and defends," said Beadle.

"He's missed a few weeks but it was an ideal game to bring him back.

"We had seven players out today.

"Gethin [Hill] wasn't available, [Mike] Symons and [Dara] O'Shea were suspended and [Calvin] Dinsley, [Jack] Deaman and [Lance] Smith are not fit.

"So when you think about the players that have got to come back, it's highly promising."
