YOUNG athletes at The Chase School have enjoyed success at county, regional and national level in 2017.

With more than 75 students attending athletics club, The Chase has entered district, county and English schools cup competitions.

In the county minors event for youngsters in years seven and eight, there were fine performances from Charlie Pallett in 1500m, Issy Kirby in long jump, Lennox Juden in high jump and Olli Hallion in 300m.

Amber Hopkins became county champion in the girls’ high jump clearing 1.40m and Joe Hayward won a silver medal in the boys’ high jump.

The year nine and 10 students continue to shine, with Marco Miller in the county 100m and 200m final. Sarah Jane Ollis collected a silver medal in 100m and 200m final along with Jaye Mullings who missed out on gold in the inter-boys 200m final.

Ash Bajwa achieved a personal best of 1.63m in the high jump with Danielle Hopkins winning both the county high jump and long jump.

Holly Love, who ran at the national cross country finals, won silver in the 3000m.

Love, Mullings, Ollis and Danielle Hopkins all went on to represent Hereford and Worcester in the Mason Trophy at the Alexander Stadium. Ollis came second in the 200m, with Mullings, Love and Hopkins all finishing in the top half of their individual events.

Haydn Smy, Danielle Hopkins and Bajwa gained at least one personal best in one of the events at the regional final for the combined events in Milton Keynes.

Danielle Hopkins is set to compete in the national final in early September. Ollis and Danielle Hopkins also reached the standard to qualify for the English Schools Championships.
