BARNARDS Green will be looking to upset the odds on Sunday when they take part in Birmingham League’s T20 Challenge Cup finals day at Walsall.

The Division One outfit are the lowest ranked team left in the competition as they prepare to face Premier Division high-fliers Berkswell in the semi-final (1.45pm).

But Green will be in buoyant mood of sealing their place in the final against either Walsall or Wolverhampton (5.15pm) after stunning higher-graded Barnt Green in an epic quarter-final last weekend.

Andy Ford steered Green to 153 all out with 78 runs off 35 balls before a dramatic finish saw Tom Banks run out Harrison Moncrieffe in the final over to win by one run.

After losing the toss, Green were hit by early dismissals as Banks (6) and Dannie Rees (14) fell before Will and Jon Dovey were both trapped lbw.

Big-hitting Ford blasted 10 fours and four sixes to take his side beyond three figures.

But when he was removed by Ed Rhodes Green were put on the back foot.

Ash Brewer (6) skied one to keeper Ethan Holmes before George White and Shane Thompson were clean bowled. Monzur Ahmed was caught by Daniel Meredith after making 20 and Blair Kingsland became the fourth lbw as Green’s innings was brought to a close.

Ed Pollock announced his intentions with two huge sixes.

Hut his stumps were left shattered by Jon Dovey. Barnt Green then raced to 52 before Tom Banton (25) holed out to Kingsland.

The spin pairing of Ford and Kingsland helped slow down the run rate as they conceded just 22 runs in six overs and trapped Tom Brown (25) lbw.

Jack Mackintosh sent Darrel Williams’ (36) bails flying with a fine delivery and Andrew Sutton (20) followed.

Barnt Green were on the attack, but Ethan Holmes and Alex Woods did not last long to leave the match finely balanced.

With the tension rising, four byes from Ford gifted Barnt Green runs as they needed nine going into the final over.

Mackintosh clean bowled Banton (15) before Moncrieffe hit three twos to leave two runs required off the final ball for victory.

Moncrieffe struck his shot firmly to mid-on and set off only for Banks to swoop in and throw down the stumps.
