OLD Vigornians slumped to a nine-wicket defeat at Bromyard and in only collecting one bonus point dropped two places to seventh in Worcestershire League Division Two.

The Worcester side got off to a steady start thanks to in-form captain Oz Fiaz who passed 50 for the fourth time in the past eight innings.

OVs were well poised at 119-3 but after Fiaz was dismissed for 64 only Aidan Thompson and Alex Parker, who both scored 21, offered any resistance as the side collapsed to 162 all out in the 37th over.

David Taylor took 3-6 as he wrapped up the tail and Jamie Abell claimed 3-44.

Former King's Worcester captain Edd Oliver then led the vctory charge against the school's old boys as the Herefordshire side romped home inside 30 overs for the loss of just one wicket.

Oliver ended on 91 not out off 100 balls including 18 fours and a six.

He was well supported by Zahid Saheed whose 61 not out came off just 59 balls.

Only the spinners Parker and Ed Burgoyne offered any control.

In Division Three OVs seconds scored an important victory over promotion-chasing rivals Avoncroft to move into joint second place with Bredon who they face in a fortnight’s time.

Fine all-round performances from Dom Lee and Eliot Turner helped them seal an easy victory and returned the side to winnings ways after three successive defeats.

With the Worcester side at full strength for the first time in a month and the visitors struggling because of call-ups to the firsts it was always likely to be an uneven contest.

After OVs were put in the Croft openers Martyn Cound (2-43) and Andy Pittam (0-30) kept a lid on things to begin with.

With captain Josh Cound picking up 4-30 during an excellent spell the Worcester side were in some difficulty at 106-4 in the 27th over despite Chris Drew's 44.

Lee and skipper Phil Mackie turned things around - slowly at first - before stepping on the accelerator.

The pair added 107 in 13 overs before Lee (63) and Mackie (53) fell in successive overs to excellent catches by Cound and Jason Huxley.

Fifteen-year-old Turner bludgeoned a quickfire 24 not out as OVs posted 255-7 from their 45 overs.

Despite stout resistance from Huxley who scored a measured 49 the village side were never really in it.

Turner took 4-31 and Ivan Campbell-Ferguson, Ben Doyle and Lee took two wickets apiece.

Lee bowled the ball of the day to remove Huxley and Avoncroft were dismissed for 124 with 11 overs remaining.
