GARY Wilkinson edged his rivals to win the men’s Professional’s Cup at The Worcestershire Golf Club.

The eight-handicapper carded three birdies and nine pars for 67 nett, beating Mark Roberts (11) by one stroke and Bill Thomas (9) by two.

Jon Lane (17) was the best in Division Two with 72 ahead of Graham Chatterton (14) on 73 and Jim Wilde (15) on 74.

Tony Cox (19) took Division Three on countback from Nick Goodwin (22) on 72 with Roy Cale (21) third on 73.

Three single-figure handicap ladies contested Division One in their event.

Cath Francis carded 41 stableford points to lead by six and reduce her handicap to 5.5. Cathy Harris (7) fended off club champion Ursula Pearson for second on countback and the Veterans Cup.

Janet Manning-Cox took Division Two with 36 ahead of Pauline Savage on 34 and Jane Quick on 33.

New member Liz Gordon displayed her growing familiarity with the course to take the Novices Cup.

Anne Garner won with a below-par 19 points in the nine-hole stableford ahead of second-placed Margaret Duncan and Marie Willis on 15.

The men’s midweek stableford went to Thomas Deehan (4) who took Division One with 38 points, beating David Horn (11) by one with Paul Wakely (11) third on 34. Andrew Peet (20) topped Division Two with 37 in front of Mike Morris (23) on 36 and David Anderson (20) on 35.

The club’s ladies’ DICL squad beat Redditch 5-0.

The first two matches went to the 18th with Pauline Belsham and June Jones both winning one-up.

Team captain Pat Rose and Ruth Scott both triumphed 4&3. Jane Poynder won on the 11th hole 6&5.

The men’s A team triumphed 3½-2½ at Droitwich.

Phil Birch (6) and Mark Read (6) won 3&2 and Paul Wakely (10) and Tom Davies (3) two-up in a battle that went to the 18th green.

Andy McCabe (4) and Tom Howells (1) triumphed one-up with the latter holing for a birdie from 10 feet.

Steve Carter (10) and Dave Marshall (1) secured a half with the latter landing a 12ft birdie putt on the last.

The seniors halved their match at Kington with Dave Jones and Andrew Colston winning 2&1, Les Facer and Sam Macleod 3&2 and Patrick Davis and Ron Gordon 2&1.

Debbie and Clive Minett led a mixed team to a 10½-1½ win at home to Worcester Golf and Country Club.

They enjoyed a 5&3 victory over Sam Woodward and Carys Lewis.

Corinne and Nigel Mills won 6&5, Diane and Paul Meakin 5&4 and Jenny and Colin Jones 4&3.

The Worcestershire held a mixed open am-am with the top two teams made up of four men from the home club.

Howells, McCabe, Jack Culloty and Steve Lloyd won with 90 stableford points.

Club captain John Williams, Barry Caswell, John Davies and Jim Wilde saw off K Jones, E Buck, A T Jones and A Jones from Burghill Valley on countback with both on 83.
