BARNARDS Green are aiming to secure another top-five finish as they prepare to open their 2017 Birmingham League Division One campaign.

The Green, who finished fifth last season, will also be looking to get off to a strong start as they take on newly-promoted Tamworth at North End Lane tomorrow (12pm).

The 50-over contest will feature Worcestershire’s George Rhodes who could come up against his County teammate and Tamworth’s new recruit Joe Clarke.

Josh Tongue has rejoined the Green but, as a result of his flying start for Worcestershire which saw him bag nine wickets as they defeated Northamptonshire, the fast bowler will be away on County duty.

This has created an opportunity for Shane Thompson who has stepped up to spearhead the attack.

The Green will also be without stalwart Jon Dovey but welcome back Elliot Hennessy from Old Elizabethans and Ollie Swift from Worcester Nomads.

New skipper Ash Brewer will also be looking for solid contributions from proven performers Ryan Tongue, Phil Harris and Andy Ford as well as the returning Blair Kingsland, Dannie Rees and Jack McIntosh.

The seconds travel to Stratford with a very young side led by Tom Banks while the thirds do not start their season until next Saturday’s cup opener at home to Birlingham.
