A MORE experienced Leadonites under 12s team were without several key players as they won 25-6 in hosts Hereford Hornets' first match.

AJ Hammond won the tip-off at Hereford Leisure Centre straight to Fraser Renfrew-Clarke and Leadonites dominated the quarter with six points from captain Sami Miccio and four for Rich John.

The second quarter slowed down but back-court defensive hustle from Joe French and full-court presses from Owen Boniface, John and Katie Dudley caused problems for Hornets who struggled to have shots and then to get out of their own half.

Two points from Renfrew-Clarke and four by Tom Rudge nudged the score in the friendly to a 16-0 half-time lead.

Spencer Cooper scored Hornets' first basket midway through the third quarter before Miccio restored the gap.

With fourth-quarter instructions to pass at least four times before shooting unless on a solo fast break the last quarter was the best yet for spectators.

Hornets’ Oskaras Rackauska scored first before Dudley got the next four for Leadonites.

The hosts got a feel for the match and only a few timely interceptions by Alfie Fisher held them off until Rackauska scored their third basket.

Renfrew-Clarke scored the first of two free throws to round off what is hoped to become a regular fixture.

In the Glozball Central Venue League Leadonites beat Bristol Storm girls 22-4 and lost 24-12 to Gloucester Saxons.

Against an inexperienced Storm side the match was effectively won by half-time with Leadonites 14-0 ahead.

Co-coaches Sandra Dudley and Duncan Rudge introduced handicaps such as more passes required before shots were taken and defending closer to their own basket to allow Storm to advance.

Even then nine of the 10 Leadonites players scored at least one basket each.

Against Saxons Adam Dudley and Miccio pulled the early exchanges back to 4-4 before poor passes from their own end-line by Leadonites in the fifth minute gifted Saxons six points.

Despite baskets from Miccio and Tom Rudge the damage was done and Saxons led 18-8 at half-time.

The second period was closer but four points shared between Ben Lewis and Miccio could not prevent Gloucester extending their lead further.
