LEADONITES under 14s continued to show improvement with two narrow defeats to Stroud Sharks under 15s and Gloster Jets before causing a mini-upset against Gloucester Saxons seconds.

Their opponents comprehensively beat both Sharks and Jets prior to the last Glozball Central Venue League match of the day at Gloucestershire College but the Ledbury basketball club enjoyed a 22-18 victory.

Against a slow-starting team Leadonites were 4-2 up in the first minute thanks to two baskets from Josh Spriggs.

Saxons constructed their own lead of 10-4 by the eighth minute.

Back came Leadonites through an unconverted and-1 shot from Spriggs followed by a well-worked score from under the basket by the same player.

With time ticking down JJ Hobson scored a lay-up to reduce the half-time score to 12-10 to Saxons.

Fastest out of the traps for the second half was Gwilym Kemp with an unorthodox score to level.

Kemp missed two free throws as Gloucester retook the lead 16-12.

George Robb made a mid-range jump shot only for Saxons to lead 18-14 in the seventh minute.

Leadonites levelled again through scores from Kemp and Finlay Chalkley from the free-throw line.

Spriggs missed a free throw but Leadonites had the momentum moving into the last minute.

A lay-up from Hobson put them ahead with 45 seconds left before the same player received an outlet pass and raced clear to score with a finger-roll shot and ice the unlikely victory.
