THE players heading their respective divisions in the Bransford Golf Club seniors' winter league are looking the likely favourites to stay top with just one of the six monthly rounds to go.

Roy Burston leads Division One by six points, John Phillips Two by four and Martin Saunders Three by eight so it will take some good scoring to replace them in March’s final round.

Burston, who has played in four rounds to date, has scored regularly in the 30s with a best of 39 to amass 110 points from his best three.

Gerry Rebbeck, with two top scores of 36 in five rounds, trails him on 104.

They are the only players to top the century in Division One with third spot occupied by Trevor Atkinson on 99 with a top score of 34.

Also on 99 is Ferey Ghani followed by Harry Godwin and Richard Steele on 98 and Graham Wilks and Dave Miller on 95.

Phillips is one of seven players to hit the 100 mark in Division Two where he leads with 113 to Roy Williams’ 109 with top scores of 41 and 40 respectively.

David Ryall is third on 107 followed by Rob Wetton and George Batty on 103, Roy Mayo 101 and Alan Wallcroft 100.

Mayo has the division’s best score to date of 42 achieved last month.

Saunders continues to lead Division Three despite missing the last two rounds due to a shoulder injury.

His opening round of 39 in October followed by scores of 35 and 33 have kept him as the front-runner.

His 107 is eight ahead of Cynthia Holmes, who has registered two scores of 34 in her three to count, with Allen Rowberry just behind on 96 along with Dick Bettsworth on 95.

Other leading scores are John Hadley and Peter Harrison with 94, Adrian Wood on 92 and John Burrow and Andy Falconer on 90.

The latest round saw three players finish with 38 points apiece in the top division which Burston won on countback from Steele and Terry Martin.

It was just as close in Division Two where Bill Bowen pipped Wallcroft after both returned 35. Andrew Jarvis was third on 33.

There was an excellent round in Division Three where there was a return to form by Paul Edlin with 39 well ahead of Roger Steade with 33 and Wood 32.
