THE four-club winter league second round was close to leave the title destination wide open.

Bransford and Wharton Park led the way at Little Lakes as both finished with seven points.

Lakes and Burlish Park each had five. Bransford have a slim advantage at halfway with 15 to Wharton’s 13.

Lakes have 12 and Burlish eight ahead of the third round at the latter club on January 11.

Twelve players from each club play four-ball better-ball.

Bransford’s Alan Wallcroft and Trevor Atkinson halved, while Dave Miller and Ted Buckett won 3&1, John Phillips and Graham Wilks 4&2 and Ferey Ghani and Adrian Wood 4&3. Harry Godwin and Ivor Lloyd lost 3&2 and Neil Sheldon and Roger Clark 5&4.

The Children in Need competition at Bransford raised £865.60.

Seventy players took part with the three-ball team of Rob Richards, Roger Weston and Chris Eyers winning from runners-up Wayne Harris, Pete Anthony and Jim Moloney.

Third were Sue Boardman, Leigh Thomas and Eve Lynes.
