THE Worcestershire’s Clive and Deb Minett triumphed in The Vale’s 25th anniversary Throckmorton Trophy.

More than 100 golfers from 21 clubs competed over 27 holes in the better-ball open.

Nine holes on the Lenches course were followed by 18 on the International course at Bishampton.

The winners scored 71 points ahead of Denton Watts and Rose Hook (Rodway Hill) with 69 on count-back from Derek and Deb Spencer (The Warwickshire).

Home players Steve Young and Trish Hulburd were first on the International course with 47.

The Vale’s Rosie Loh, Mark Rollins and Hulburd hit the longest drives.

Meanwhile, two trophies were played for in the ladies’ section at Evesham.

The Lisa Lightfoot Salver (best gross) and Rose Bowl (best nett) are played for by any lady who has qualified from any of the medals played during the previous year.

Winning the salver with 88 was Joan Hunt ahead of Melanie Evans with 95.

Hunt completed the double by taking the bowl with 73, in front of Jill Cleary on 75.

A medal competition was played for the ladies who did not qualify.

Margaret Roberts won with 87 nett followed by Penny Osborne on 88 and Patsy Brumage on 97.
