THE Royal Oak at Leigh Sinton held their annual charity golf day at Bransford.

A record turn-out of 38 players managed high scores in excellent conditions.

The winning team were David Hampshire, Tom Shirvington, Andy Goodall and Marshall Smart.

Close behind in second place were Colin Alton, Tim Williams, Tommy Crocker and Desmond Crocker.

At the prize-giving and barbecue afterwards, it was revealed £450 was raised to be shared between the maintenance of the village defibrillator and the Midlands Air Ambulance.

Since Bransford seniors’ defeat at Kington, they have won all four club matches in July with victories over South Hereford, Henley-in-Arden, Cleobury Mortimer and Churchill and Blakedown.

Bransford beat Cleobury 4½-1 and Churchill and Blakedown 4-2.

Against Cleobury, Rob Blake (15 handicap) and Dave Harvey (27) won one-up, Alan Wallcroft (23) and Roger Clark (22) won 6&5, Pete Sheppard (14) and Lee Dyment (20) halved, Dave Miller (18) and Dick Bettsworth (27) halved, John Phillips (22) and Ferey Ghani (13) won 5&3 and Mike Davidge (16) and Roy Williams (20) halved.

In the next match, Blake and Ted Buckett (19) won one-up, Wallcroft and Bill Bowen (22) lost 2&1, Gerry Rebbeck (16) and Phillips (22) won 6&5, Trevor Atkinson (13) and Davidge halved, Ian Hamilton (12) and Peter Harrison (24) halved and Lee Dyment (20) and Clark won 4&3.

In the fourth round of the seniors’ stableford league, Division One was won by Atkinson on 36 points ahead of Miller (18), Hamilton (12), June Atkinson (18) and Terry Martin (14) on 34. Bob McGrath (18) and Ghani (13) scored 33.

Division Two was tighter with Roy Williams (20) just winning by one point from Rob Wetton (23). Williams scored 38, Wetton 37, Bowen 35, Phillips, Richard Holding (21) and Brian Cornfield (23) 34 and George Batty (21) 32.

The top totals on the day saw Phil Spencer (24) just pip John Burrow (27) by 41 points to 40 in Division Three.

They were followed by Mike Holmes (27) 38, Bettsworth (26) 33, Adrian Wood (25) 32 and Mike Kenway (31) 31.

The club champion Ollie Walker maintained his fine spell of form in winning the mid month stableford.

His tally of 41 was two points ahead of his nearest challengers Dave Lewis and Jason Keane.
