SUMMER made a welcome return just in time for the Bransford senior section’s open three-ball alliance.

A field of 36 teams and 108 golfers helped make the event one of the best for many years.

The winning trio of Peter Butler, Peter Gilliver and Robert Broadhurst travelled from Atherstone, Warwickshire.

They won the stableford with the best two scores counting on each hole.

The Atherstone players scored 85 points, five more than Sandwell Park’s Jon Deakin (5 handicap), Paul Hancox (19) and Martin Stevenson (19).

Bransford’s Gerry Rebbeck (16), Ian Hamilton (13) and Rob Blake (14) were third on 78, just a point ahead of Droitwich’s Adrian Spence (13), Rob Morgan (13) and Trevor Lloyd (18).

The home club’s Alan Wallcroft (22), Mike Davidge (18) and Roger Clark (22) were fifth on 75, pipping John Phillips (22), Roy Williams (20) and Ferey Ghani (15) on count-back.

Bransford’s Charlie Payne (13), Ted Buckett (19) and Brian Ballard (17) were seventh on 74 along with Allan Bridge (18), John Newey (18) and Mick Witherford (13) from the Abbey Redditch and Halesowen’s Peter Parks (17), Dave Fisher (10) and Steve Holmes (13).

Bransford seniors held a Florida scramble competition involving 15 drawn teams of three.

Two teams finished with 55 nett (78 gross) in Bob McGrath (18), Glen Mallinson (28) and Peter Appleton (22) and Rebbeck (15), Andrew Jarvis (23) and Jane Smallwood (28) with victory going to the former trio on count-back.

They were playing off 23 and the other team 22.

Williams, Dave Randle and Paul Edlin managed 77-21=56, Dick Bettsworth, Ken Jones and Pauline Wetton 83-25=58, Payne, Phillips and Dave Miller 79-20=59, Adrian Wood, John Burrow and Leigh Thomas 83-24=59, Mike Kenway, Roger Clark and Wallcroft 85-25=60 and Cynthia Holmes, Eve Lynes and Phil Spencer 91-31=60.

The main club’s July medal was close in Division One with Andy Lammas shooting gross 76 nett 70 to win on count-back from David Hunt on 79-9=70. Third was Andrew Oliver on 80-9=71.

Division Two was won by Mark Cox on 91-20=71 with Carl Wiltshire second after scoring 98-24=74 and third on count-back was Craig Barry on 92-18=74.

The July stableford went the way of Harry Chadwick in Division One with 40 points, two ahead of Phil Yates with Ian Bowman third on 34.

Division Two was won by Abi Nixon on 42 followed by Steve Monk on 41 and Andy Goodall on 38.
