A GOLF professional is part of a new management team aiming to drive Bromyard Town back to the West Midlands League Premier Division.

Graham Glenister, who runs his own academy at Ombersley Golf Club, has been appointment joint-manager along with UEFA B licensed football coach Luke Shuttleworth at Delahay Meadow.

The duo have been running the under 21s at Stourport Swifts for the last two years and in their last season finished tied at the top of the Midland League Under 21 South Division, only losing to Bedworth United on goal difference.

They have now been handed the task of turning things around at Bromyard, who were relegated to Division One after a disappointing campaign which saw them fail to play their remaining two games.

Nick Smith also stepped down as boss, claiming he put £21,000 of his own money into the club over the past two years.

But Glenister, general manager of the Glenister Golf Academy, said he was “absolutely delighted” to take on the role and believed Bromyard were on course for a strong 2016-17 campaign.

“The chairman and board of directors have been fantastic during our discussions,” he said.

“We have a good nucleus of young talent we intend to bring with us but at the same time will welcome any local committed and hungry players capable of competing in the West Midlands League.

“The timing is perfect for us because our group of players are ready to step up to first-team football.

“Luke is an excellent coach and will double up as our centre-half.

“We’ve worked together for a good many years now through youth and under 21 football. We have a great relationship.”

Glenister added: “We will begin pre-season training towards the end of June. Usually at this time of year we can’t wait to hang the boots up and have a break but right now we’re really excited about the set-up at Bromyard and getting stuck in.

“It would be great to get people in the town down to watch us and talking about a good style and standard of football.”
