WORCESTER Nomads’ Sunday XI opened their season with a 68-run friendly win at Hanley Castle and Upton.

The Bransford side made 226-8 in 40 overs thanks mainly to hard hitting from captain Jamie Oliver (100) and Jack Elston (66).

Apart from Nigel Dexter (16), they were the only batsmen in double figures with Harry Tippell taking 3-34 in eight overs.

In reply, Nick Bentley (40) and Phil Price (25) took Hanley to 76-2 before the accurate off-spin of Tristan Meier, with 1-13 from eight overs, and medium pace of Mitch Wells broke their stand.

Under 15s player Wells claimed four quick wickets in a fine second spell to finish with 4-39.

Under 14s bowler Brad Mason only conceded 15 runs from seven overs and young leg-spinner Jack Saunders (1-41) also did well.

Apart from Tony Hutchings (16), the innings collapsed as Sam Brookes (2-6) and Robin Elston (1-16) took their first wickets in senior cricket.
