SENIOR golfers from The Worcestershire Golf Club braved appalling weather for a 16-hole stableford prior to their traditional Christmas lunch and trophy presentation.

The winners with 41 points were Dave Anderson and Brian Tainton but all participants received a Christmas present.

Outgoing seniors’ captain John Williams presented cups and trophies.

Prize-winners included David Wood, whose win over Dave Jones in the principal summer knockout final saw him lift the Yarworth Cup.

Barry Caswell was awarded the Champion of Champions Trophy and also lifted the Fraser Tankard Pairs Trophy with Barry Taylor.

Dave Anderson won the Yarworth Plate singles and the four individual Tankard winners were Peter Taylor, Mike Travis, Ray Cupitt and Derek Lloyd.

Stan Jones and Euan McClelland were victorious in the Corless Goblets.

The Worcestershire’s two-day Christmas goose stableford attracted a good entry despite poor weather.

In the Saturday competition, Bill Thomas headed Division One with 40 points.

Phil Park scored 34 to take second place with Mike Bothma third on 33.

Division Two saw a win for John Whitehead with 38, one ahead of Mark Davies with Brian Kendall third on 35.

However, the best round was by Division Three’s Mike Bolton with 41 for overall victory.

Cuth McDowell and Les Facer took the minor placings on 34 and 32 respectively.

The Sunday event saw a win for Division One’s Nick Day with 40 ahead of Neil Bogart on 38 and Steve Carter on 37.

Dave Flanagan headed Division Two with 37, edging Pete Basten into second place on count-back and Tim Maslen was third on 34.

In Division Three, Nick Goodwin’s 35 took the honours ahead of Ian Jukes and Andrew Dare on 33.

Round five of the ladies’ winter league was reduced to 15 holes due to heavy rain.

June Jones recorded her third win from five competitions, finishing on +12 in a repeat of the good bogey format played in round one.

Chris Urry on +11 pushed her close, recording her second runner-up slot.

Sandra Schofield lost out on count-back to finish third.

Sue Boardman, Cathy Harris and Joan Herbert scored +10 and Elsie Kelsall, Pauline Belsham, Diane Meakin and Pauline Savage +9.

The nine-hole November monthly league saw Davina Taylor come out on top with three wins ahead of Pauline Taylor with two.
