BROMYARD Town goalkeeper Dean Smith scored from a free-kick but Malvern Town romped home 6-3 in the West Midlands League Premier Division derby.
Former Archdales player Smith retired in the summer after winning the Division One title as captain, but then decided to rejoin the club.
He netted against Malvern at Delahay Meadow when his long free-kick from about 40 yards deceived everyone and went straight in.
Smith said: “I hit it long because I thought, if we hit it deep, someone up top could get a flick-on.
“The ‘keeper came, struggled and it went in. I’ll take that goal all day long.”
The defeat left Bromyard, who have a number of Worcester-based players and are managed by Nick Smith, third from bottom in the division.
They also scored through Josh Weatherby’s brace.
But Les Jones’ 17th-placed Malvern side won through goals from Dave Reynolds (2), Bryan Craven and Ben Hayes’ hat-trick.
