WORCESTER Nomads suffered their first Sunday XI friendly defeat of the season when they lost by 70 runs to Rushwick.

Their local rivals totalled 203-9 in a 40-over match with P Davis (42), Ben Bromage (41) and Richard Bull (41 not out) being Rushwick’s main run scorers.

Young leg-spinner Jack Saunders (3-43) and seamers Nigel Dexter (2-33) and Jack Elston (2-43) took wickets for Bransford-based Nomads.

In reply, Nomads were always struggling with only Chris Bland (45) and Dexter (15) in double figures as they were bowled out for 133.

Meanwhile, an impressive Barnards Green under 13s team beat Worcester Nomads by 49 runs in a 20-20 League match.

Green made 153-1 with Lewis Regan (32no), George Blannin (31no) and Josh Dickenson (31no) all subject to the league compulsory retirement rule as Saunders (1-34) claimed the only wicket.

Nomads were on 104-8 in reply with only Jack Farmer (31no), Saunders (16) and Brad Mason (10) making any impression.

County spinner Ben Sutton (3-18) was the pick of Green’s bowling, while the wicketkeeping of Blannin was outstanding.

Nomads under 14s recorded their second league win of the season with a comfortable six-wicket success over Worcester.

In a much-improved bowling and fielding performance from Nomads, Worcester were restricted to 89-9 in their 20 overs.

T Jacob (39) batted well with support from Ben Wadley (16) and Owen Giles (10).

Fine spells from Sam Clark (3.5-0-3-2), Saunders (4-0-12-2) and George Watkins (4-0-14-2), together with two sharp run-outs, gave Nomads the upper hand.

Worcester made a good reply, removing dangerous opener Sam Jones (17) as Nomads wavered on 26-4 in the face of accurate bowling from J Finch (3-25) and Wadley (1-20).

However, the fifth-wicket pair of Saunders, with 29no including five fours, and Sam Williams, with 31no and four fours, took control with a fine display of batting in an unbroken stand of 62, which took Nomads to victory in only 12.1 overs.
