FOURTEEN Malvern Triathlon Club members took on the gruelling but exciting Slateman Triathlon at Llanberis, Gwynedd.

Andy Rickard was the sole Malvern member in the sprint race of a 400-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike section and 6km run, finishing in one hour 40 minutes 21 seconds.

At the full distance, cold water meant the swim was reduced from 1km to 500m before a tough 51km bike leg and run of more than 11km.

Steve Butler finished first for Malvern in 2.43.0, while Lisa Hurley was the sole female for the club and improved her bike time by 16 minutes from last year, followed by Steve Keepax, Paul Cope, Tony Knight and Andrew Heath.

Swimmer Kenny Folina, cyclist Rob Hurley and runner Vikki Sivertsen gained top spot on the mixed relay team podium.

Adam Hall, Pauline Whitaker and Amanda Duncan were 11th.

Roger Canavan won the 70-plus age category.
