SIX members of Malvern Triathlon Club participated in the Tewkesbury sprint triathlon.

The challenge consisted of a 400-metre pool swim, a 24-kilometre cycle section and a 5km run.

There were some fine times posted by club members with Andrew Rickard and David Green being separated by only four seconds with the former just shading it.

Stephen Clarke and Simon Angwin also had two good times with less than a minute between them.

Clarke was particularly pleased to finish the race six minutes faster than last year.

The only female representing the club at Tewkesbury was Claire Crozier, who came an impressive fourth in her category.

Richard Wiggett left the pool with the fastest time for the club but, about one-third of the way into the bike course, an old hamstring injury flared up, forcing him to take it easy for the rest of the race.

The final race positions saw Rickard finish in front of Green, Crozier, Clarke, Angwin and Wiggett.

The same morning, Chris Burrows was the sole Malvern member at the Cotswold Water Park super sprint triathlon, which consisted of a 400m open water swim, a 20km bike section and a 5km run.

Burrows was happy to improve on his time from last year and is looking forward to the challenge of the longer sprint distance at the same venue later this year.

The same weekend, Malvern hosted a successful ‘Try a Tri’ event with more than 20 people attending.

Participants enjoyed sessions in swimming, cycling, running and transition.

The event was aimed at new and prospective members and novice triathletes.

After the event, several positive comments were posted to the town club’s Facebook page.

Malvern gained several new members from the morning and hope to host their ‘Tri Harder’ event later on in the autumn which is aimed at improvers.
