THE Worcestershire attracted 48 pairs for their mixed open greensomes event.

Knowledge of the greens proved invaluable in the dry, cool but blustery conditions.

Leading the field home with 41 stableford points were Andy Dunster (handicap 5) and Marcia McFarlane (14).

The runners-up with 40 were mother-and-son Liz Lewis (18) and Moseley member Richard Lewis (5).

Home pairing Liz Pool (24) and Peter Hill (13) took third with 39 on count-back from Rodway Hill’s S Sweet and S Hooton. April and Andy Greene were fifth on 38.

Wild, windy weather greeted the Malvern Wells club’s ladies for their EG Medal.

The testing conditions proved no barrier to the Silver Division’s Cathy Harris, who returned 73 nett, and Liz Evans (74). Corinne Mills was third on 77.

Tina Jukes took the Bronze Division with 76 ahead of Sandra Schofield in second spot and Jane Poynder.

Doreen Hunt again won the Copper Division and was followed home by April Wilding-Greene. The nine-hole stableford went to Christine Goody on count-back from Kay Bromley.

Meanwhile, club captain Steve Bradshaw led the ‘B’ team to a resounding 4½-1½ victory at home to Evesham.

Most matches were close on a bright, breezy day.

Steve Bradshaw and Dave Turner won 4&3, Gary Eames and Allan Davies 2&1 and Roger Brierly and Pete Basten 2&1.

Mel Stocker and Chris Hardy won one-up and Colin Jones and Mike Hanna secured a half but Patrick Mcllroy and Sam McLeod lost 3&2.

In a ladies’ home match against The Herefordshire, all four pairs won.

Ladies’ captain Pam Emery-Reynolds led the side and, with partner Vanessa Chesterton, won on the 18th to make it a decisive 4-0 victory for the hosts.
