MALVERN’S Velo Club Sevale contested their Burford Cup 10-mile time trial on the hilly Chance Lane course.

Competitors had to swap their aero time trial bikes for a standard road bike set-up and the final result was determined on a handicap calculated on last year’s best time.

Mark Webb set the pace with 24 minutes 21 seconds, which was over 30 seconds faster than the second-fastest William Davies (24.53).

The eventual winner and new holder of the cup was Ben Davies, whose time of 26.51 was good enough on handicap to pip Webb by an agonising eight seconds.

Sevale’s next time trial will be next Thursday on the 25-mile Rhydd course.

The first rider is off at 7pm with signing-on from 6.30pm. For more, visit sevale.co.uk.
