WELLAND booked their place in the Cheltenham Association League’s Junior Charity Cup final.

They will play Leckhampton Rovers or Northway following a 3-1 victory over Fintan in the semi-final, just 24 hours after returning from a successful football tour of Amsterdam.

Welland began brightly against a physical Fintan side and took an early lead when Omar Elmougy dispatched a penalty after he was fouled in the area.

They continued to push for a second goal at Bishops Cleeve FC but the score remained 1-0 at half-time.

Midway through the second half, Paul Edwards scored with an excellent scissor kick and looked to have put the tie beyond their opponents.

Fintan were soon reduced to 10 men after a red card, but rallied and got a goal, putting them right back in the tie.

Goalkeeper Niall Hacking was forced into several smart saves to deny an equaliser, before a tiring Fintan side conceded a third when Stacey Brimmell finished well to complete the victory.

Having already been confirmed Division Three champions, Welland drew 1-1 at home to promotion-chasing Newlands Athletic at Spitalfield.

The hosts went close early-on in the tie through Jamie Harding and James Lush, while returning captain Mark Taylor drove just wide from the edge of the box following good link-up play with Edwards.

The second half saw manager Dave Oakley make a tactical switch and Welland continued to push for a goal.

Edwards was fouled in the area and Tim Lewis scored from the spot for a 1-0 lead.

Welland had chances to go further ahead and a win looked all the more likely when Newlands were reduced to 10 men due to a red card.

But the home side were punished for not sealing the victory when Newlands equalised in the 90th minute.
