MALVERN Town maintained their winning habit by escaping with a 1-0 West Midlands League Premier Division win in windy Great Wyrley.

Hosts Wolverhampton Sporting Community had recently moved from ground-sharing with Wednesfield at Amos Lane to their own ground at Hazel Lane.

The harsh pitch and strong swirling wind made for difficult playing conditions.

Malvern only had one chance in the first-half when the ball fell to Aaron Richards in the box.

But Richards tried to cross to Dave Reynolds, who could not reach the high ball, rather than pull the trigger and aim for goal.

Malvern were kept in the game by the heroics of keeper Chas Weaver, who pulled off some wonderful saves and dominated his area despite the wind.

The longer the game continued, the more the spectators thought it would be settled by a mistake or a wonder goal.

Both sides made substitutions and Malvern’s second had the desired result.

Within four minutes of Chris Parker coming on the pitch, Malvern earned a corner.

Parker judged the wind correctly and curled the ball straight into the net.

In the 89th minute, Lee Hooper played a ball to Parker, who crossed into the area but Reynolds could not quite reach it.

Then Reynolds crossed the ball and Matt Turner fired over a minute later.
