A SUPERB second-half performance powered Worcester Warriors to a comprehensive 56-15 victory over their Greene King IPA Championship play-off rivals at Sixways.

Third-placed London Scottish trailed 21-15 at the interval and profited from poor first-half mistakes from Warriors to remain in the contest.

However, the visitors’ hopes were crushed within eight minutes of the restart when debu - tant Cooper Vuna and Sam Smith crossed for converted tries.

The second-half dismantling of Scottish by Warriors left the visitors stunned at the final whistle and it could yet leave a lasting wound on the men from Richmond.

Warriors were initially the architects of their own problems with fly-half Ryan Lamb erratic on his return from injury in the opening 40 minutes.

In fact, the frustration among some of the home fans towards the returning Warriors fly- half reached boiling point after 22 minutes.

Peter Lydon intercepted a pass from Lamb and juggled with the ball before running through unopposed.

He converted his own try to give Scottish a shock 15-14 lead after 22 minutes.

The mercurial Lamb found his rhythm after the break and was a positive influence as Warriors racked up 35 unanswered points in the second-half.

Centre Andy Symons had an outstanding afternoon for the hosts, missing only one first- half penalty, as he converted all eight Warriors’ tries.

And the powerful Vuna looked a handful for the visiting defence in his first outing for three months until he was replaced in the 61st min - ute.

Replacement Gus Creevy charged around like a man with something to prove when he came on to the field for the final 25 minutes.

Scottish took the lead after just 80 seconds when Mark Bright was driven over from a line-out awarded after Lamb had kicked the ball out on the full.

Lamb redeemed himself, diving full-length over the line for a converted try after a flowing move involving Max Stelling, Smith, Leo Senatore and Jonny Arr.

Ryan Bower got the final touch to a driving maul for Warriors’ second try, after the hosts won a penalty at a scrum from referee Greg McDonald.

Bower was penalised at the next scrum allowing Lydon’s penalty to reduce arrears.

There was frustration around Sixways when an interception try from Lydon, which he con - verted, put the visitors ahead.

Symons was off target with a long-range pen - alty before Warriors regained the lead.

Chris Pennell touched down after Mike Wil - liams’ break created the chance.

Warriors had a let-off just before the interval when Lydon dragged his penalty wide.

Vuna opened his try-scoring account within a minute of the restart and celebrated by throwing the ball up to the South Stand after a neat interchange from Lamb and Stelling.

And Smith had the crowd on their feet, get - ting the final touch to his grubber kick.

Sam Betty dotted down from a driving maul before Worcester rounded off the match with two stunning late tries.

Stelling crossed in the corner after collecting Lamb’s long pass and Arr completed the try- scoring after a sparkling move.
