MALVERN United fished the first of their Spring Cup matches on the Grebe pool at Holt Heath’s Top Barn Farm fishery.
A cold overnight temperature and icy breeze in the morning made fishing slow and most competitors struggled to get bites.
However, Sean Taylor eventually found a few carp by fishing at long distance using method feeder tactics to win with 32lb 15oz.
Second place came from the next peg with John Taylor using a similar approach to weigh in 23-15 of carp.
In a different part of the pool, Chris Loveridge tempted a few bream to make up the bulk of his third-placed weight of 15-11.
The best fish was an 8lb carp landed by Frank Edwards, the only one he caught but enough for fifth place.
Ken Yates was fourth with 9-1, while other catches were 6-9 by Dick Oakley, 4-14 by Bill Hartland and 3-10 by John Cooper.
