DARTS ace Terry Jenkins has finished runner-up in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy final.

It was Jenkins’ best run on the PDC European Tour and he claimed some notable scalps before crashing to a 6-3 defeat against in-form Michael van Gerwen.

The Ledbury star ended James Wade’s defence of the championship with a 6-2 semi-final triumph before having to settle for the £10,000 runner-up prize.

Dutchman van Gerwen swept aside Jenkins with a 107.04 average as he clinched a second successive European Tour triumph — following February’s German Championship win.

Van Gerwen missed double 12 for a nine-dart finish as he came from a leg down to build a 4-1 lead.

Jenkins replied to two 11-darters from van Gerwen with an 11-dart leg of his own before finishing a 13-darter to stay in touch at 5-3, but van Gerwen took out 112 in the next to seal the title.

Previously, Jenkins enjoyed a 6-2 second round win against Tony Newell before securing a 6-4 win over world champion Gary Anderson.

The Bull then overcame Mervyn King 6-3 in the quarter-finals.
