MALVERN Town visit Ellesmere Rangers tomorrow looking to cement their place in the West Midlands League Premier Division top six (3pm).

Town are 10 points above seventh-placed Haughmond but have played four more games than their rivals.

However, they are aware of the importance of maintaining their current position as it carries the potential reward of a place in next season’s FA Cup.

Les Jones’s side head to Shropshire unbeaten in four fixtures, which included a 4-1 home victory over Ellesmere a fortnight ago.

The Malvern manager said: “We were good winners at home but when you travel away it’s tough and they have got a good home record.

“They are still above us in the league so will be favourites but we are looking forward to it.

“It’s a really important game and a step on our way to our target of finishing in the top six. If we could get a positive result, it would be great.”

Malvern were without a match last weekend and have played the most fixtures in the division.

Jones added: “All we can do is keep trying to win the games we have got left and see where that takes us. We are on a good run so we are confident but it’s still a really tough game tomorrow.”

Malvern are without striker Dave Reynolds as he serves the second of his three-match ban, while defender Jamie Thomas is absent through family commitments.

Jones is waiting on the availability of defender Aaron Richards and midfielder Kirk Layton due to work.

Layton scored one of the goals in the last victory over Rangers alongside efforts from Ben Hayes, Harry Wickett and Matt Turner.

Ellesmere played on Tuesday, drawing 2-2 with fourth-placed Shawbury United to maintain their record of not having lost at home in the league since August.

Meanwhile, in Division Two, Malvern Town under-21s beat Gornal Colts 1-0 with Jake Hollylee on target and Powick Rangers drew 3-3 at Wolverhampton United.
