MALVERN Radar boosted their McDonald’s Worcester and District League Sunday Premier Division title hopes with a 3-0 win over leaders Arrow Upton 2000.

The second-placed Victoria Park side are now just two points behind Arrow but have played a game more.

Despite heavy conditions and an uneven playing surface, impressive football was served up by both sides for a sizeable crowd.

The young Radar side were sharper and quicker to the ball in all departments and, playing with the slope in the first-half, quickly established their dominance.

Arrow struggled to cope with the blistering pace of Lewis Platt, who linked up with Ricky Buckland and Sean Smith to open up the visitors’ defence all too easily.

Meanwhile, Reece King and Alex Wren won the majority of the aerial battles.

Matt Cole, in his new defensive role for Radar, read the game superbly and only occasionally did the visitors threaten.

The match was won in the first period with goals from Buckland, Wren and Jon Dovey.

The first 15 minutes of the second-half saw a much better organised Arrow side encamped in the Radar half.

They had a chance to narrow the gap when awarded a penalty but were denied by a fine save from young goalkeeper Josh King.

As the game progressed, the superior fitness levels of the hosts began to tell and Radar ran out comfortable winners.
