WELLAND strengthened their lead at the top of Cheltenham Association League Division Three with a 4-0 home win over Charlton Rovers Reserves.
The hosts almost took the lead without their opponents touching the ball when good passing resulted in James Lush’s shot being well saved.
But Welland did go ahead on six minutes after a fine passage of play saw Paul Edwards and Omar Elmougy combine.
Stacey Brimmell eventually squared for Jamie Harding to finish from close range.
Despite Welland looking more threatening, they could not extend the lead before half-time with Mark Taylor, Brimmell and Lush all firing wide when well placed.
Welland began the second-half a little nervously knowing a second goal was required.
When Brimmell fired home on the hour from Edwards’ pass, the hosts had a cushion and were able to relax within their play.
Welland made it 3-0 on 65 minutes when Taylor’s free-kick was expertly volleyed home by Lush.
The scoring was completed on 82 minutes when Lush beat his man and drove a low cross to Dave Knapper, who calmly beat the keeper at the back post.
Welland visit bottom side Shurdington Rovers Reserves on Saturday (2pm).
The club have a quiz night on Saturday, February 7, at Malvern Motorcycle Club, Link Way.
Doors open at 7.15pm for an 8pm start.
Meanwhile, Hanley Swan return to action on Saturday with a Division One derby at home to local rivals Upton Town (2pm).
