THE David Dennis-trained horse Ballybough Andy broke his maiden status under jockey Noel Fehily.

Owned by Corbett Stud, the five-year-old, priced at 11-2, won the Betfred Supports Jack Berry Novices’ Handicap Chase at Huntingdon on his seventh start under rules.

Hanley Swan-based Dennis said: “He was carrying top weight and giving the second horse 11lb.

“Despite giving weight away to the whole field, Ballybough Andy took the whole race in his stride, never putting a foot wrong.

“Though he idled a little after jumping the last, he responded well to Noel and ran on well to the line to hold on by one-and-a-half lengths from the Sam Twiston-Davies-ridden Bally Braes.

“He jumped exceptionally well, putting on a great display of jumping for a novice.

“We were really pleased with the win, which brought home £4,549 in prize money.

“Ballybough Andy is a big chaser, who has always schooled well at home.

“I may enter him in a race again in a month or so but we won’t rush him as he’s still only five.

“We bought him at the Cheltenham Brightwell’s January sale this year after he had been placed in an Irish point-to-point at Templenacarriga and so far he is living up to his potential. ”

At Uttoxeter, the Dennis-trained Key To The West landed spoils worth £3,899 in the 32Red Casino Interactive Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase.

The seven-year-old, owned by Favourites Racing and priced at 9-2, won easily by nine lengths under Gavin Sheehan.

Dennis added: “We didn’t have to wait very long for our next winner as it was only two days later through Key To The West.

“The Westerner gelding, who won three novice hurdles on the bounce throughout November 2013, has taken a few runs to warm to his fences. But Uttoxeter saw him put up a fine front-running display to win at the fourth time of asking.

“He jumped fluently and confidently to win easily and we are hoping he can only build on this latest effort and continue to progress.”

Un Anjou (9-2), also trained by Dennis, secured his second successive win, with a one-and-a-half length success at Taunton in the Stables Business Park Clients Day Out Handicap Chase.
