HOSTS The Worcestershire’s A and B teams both secured places in the Droitwich Shield inter-club match-play quarter-finals.

The A team had a tougher fight against Bransford than their 3-0 win would suggest.

While Peter Lupino and Dave Marshall won 4&3, Steve Lane and Phil Shurmer and Jamie Dunster and Tom Howells eventually claimed victory on the 18th hole.

The B team beat Stourbridge 2½-½ with Phil Dance and Mark Read triumphing 5&4, Andy Dunster and Jason Allies halving and the third match resulting in a walkover for the hosts.

Meanwhile, Sue Boardman and June Jones headed the field when The Worcestershire ladies played their latest winter league round.

Playing a Greensome stableford, they carded 35 points, four ahead of Lisa Digings and Jane Quick with Liz Evans and Liz Bird third on 30.

Pauline Stow won the nine-hole individual stableford with 17 points ahead of Betty Mitchell (15).

In the annual end-of-season friendly, Barry Schofield’s C team beat Steve Bradshaw’s B side by eight stableford points, with Andy McCabe’s A lineup back in third place.

The best individual scores were Mark Read (A) and Mel Stocker (B) on 38 and John Monk (C) on 40.

In winter mixed golf, pairs specialists Phil Birch and Liz Pool won with a Greensome stableford score of 42 points.

Competition organisers Isabel and Charles Carmichael (37) followed ahead of Gordon and Joan Herbert (36).
