SHOOTING star Vicky Jenkins believes she’s on target for a Great Britain squad place in the Paralympic Archery World Championships in Germany.

The 37-year-old from Malvern is looking forward to next season and says she is working hard in training.

Jenkins has just taken part in a Paralympic demonstration at Wollaton Hall and Park, Nottingham.

“The world championships are taking place in August next year and that is the next major competition for us,” she said.

“I have had a very good season and we are trying a few new things and working on a few tweaks and changes in training.”

Jenkins, a Bromyard Bowmen member, took up archery aboutround four years ago and is dreaming of a place at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio.

She shoots in the W1 women’s compound class and clinched a silver medal earlier this year at the European Championships in Switzerland.

Jenkins continued: “Going to Switzerland was my first trip away with the GB para-archery team and we came home with a total of nine medals, so it was a very successful competition.

“It was a great experience, an honour to represent my country and I know next year will be very busy with lots of competitions.

“Everything will lead to the World Championships in Germany next year and I am pleased with the significant progress I have made in the sport.

“When I started shooting a few years ago, I could hardly pull back the bow halfway.”
