A MALVERN St James School teenager claimed gold at the Midland Track and Field Championships in Leicester.

Despite blustery conditions at Saffron Lane, high jumper Hannah Tapley confirmed her place as one of the top under 17 girls in the country by becoming regional champion with an excellent leap of 1.67 metres.

The 15-year-old Worcester Athletic Club prospect had also qualified for the England Championships at Bedford.

She finished sixth in the under 17s section after a jump of 1.65 metres.
